How To Apply For The YouthCred Loan | Step-by-Step Guide

In an earlier publication, we talked about the CrediCorp's YouthCred Loan sponsored by the federal government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This loan is intended for serving corps member that needs funds to sort out relocation, start a side hustle, or buy something essential during their service year.

I have prepared this guide to help you walk through everything, from for eligibility to getting the money in your account.

Step 1: Confirm Eligibility

Before applying, make sure you meet the basic requirements:
  • You must be a currently serving NYSC corps member
  • Age: 18 to 39 years
  • You should have at least 2 months left in your service year
If your eligibility check checks all the boxes, you move on to setup two.

Step 2: Complete the Financial Literacy Training

This is not just a loan, it's a chance to learn responsible borrowing.
  • Visit www.youthcred.com
  • Create an account
  • Enroll in the digital financial literacy course
It takes a short time and covers budgeting, credit scores, and repayment habits.
You must complete this training before you can proceed with your loan application.

Step 3: Register on the YouthCred Portal

Once you're done with the training:
  • Log in to www.youthcred.com
  • Select the "NYSC" category
  • Fill in your personal and NYSC details:
    • Call-up number
    • NYSC State code
    • Deployment letter or ID card
    • A clear selfie (for face verification)
  • Link your BVN and bank account details
Make sure your details match what’s on your NYSC profile and bank account to avoid delays.

Step 4: Apply for the Loan

You’ll now see an option to request a loan.
  • Choose the amount (₦100,000–₦150,000 depending on your profile)
  • Select your preferred repayment duration
  • Review the monthly repayment estimate
  • Hit "Submit" to apply
Note: First-time applicants may be limited to ₦50,000. If you repay responsibly, you can get more later.

Step 5: Do the Face Verification

YouthCred uses facial verification to confirm that it's really you applying, not a scammer.
  • You’ll be asked to take a quick selfie or short video
  • Make sure you’re in a well-lit place
  • Don’t wear glasses or head coverings (unless religious)
Once verified, you're almost there!

Step 6: Get Disbursed & Start Repayment

After approval, your loan will be disbursed directly to your linked bank account. Repayment happens monthly and is tailored to your NYSC allowance.
  • You can set automatic deductions
  • Or pay manually through your dashboard
Repay early and consistently to improve your credit score and unlock bigger future loans.

Final Tip

Don’t wait until you’re broke, apply when your head is still cool. Use the loan wisely and build a strong credit history while still in service.
